There is a movement underway to change the way Florida decides if convicted killers should be executed, following the life sentence given to the Parkland shooter. The current law allows a single juror to veto the death penalty, leading to calls for an amendment to require unanimous agreement from the jury. Previously, the judge had made the decision on whether a person would get a death sentence and the jurors gave a non-binding opinion, until the Florida Supreme Court ruled that for a death sentence, it had to be a unanimous decision by jurors.
