Nearly $30k Vanishes From Man’s Bank Account: How to Protect Yourself From Fraud

Luca Bencini discovered that his bank account was compromised and contacted Bank of America to report the fraud. It was determined that Bencini had been the victim of “email bombing,” a type of cyber attack in which a victim’s email inbox is flooded with thousands of emails, making it easier for attackers to slip a fraudulent email through. Despite filing a claim with Bank of America, Bencini’s request for reimbursement was denied twice. Bencini and his wife reached out to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in determining how their account was compromised. Bank of America recommends that customers set up two-factor authentication and never ignore emails from their bank.
